HBRA Committees/Councils Criteria
General Criteria for Committee/Council Participation as of 02.13.07
All committee or council members shall be members of the Association. All appointments are made by the committee or council chairperson and hold 1-year terms. Committee or council chairpersons also choose his/her vice-chairperson. HBRA President appoints committee or council Chairperson.
Interested members should contact the Executive Officer with a letter expressing committee or council involvement via postal mail, fax or e-mail. A brief description about their qualifications or interest should be included in the letter. Appointment selections for participation on committees, councils and reappointments will be made shortly after the Fall Board of Directors meeting, although members can join a committee or council at any time during the year. Members missing consecutive committee or council meetings, without an excused absence, may be removed without notification.
After appointments are made in the fall, each committee or council shall set a meeting schedule that best accommodates member's schedules for the year ahead. Serving on a committee or council is a working appointment and attendance at the meetings should be a priority. All committees are charged with developing and requesting an annual budget. Committee Chairs give quarterly budget reports to the Board of Directors. Chairs also give monthly reports on tasks at Board meetings.
HBRA ADVISORY COUNCILS
Associate's Council: * LOOKING FOR MEMBERS *

Focuses on developing various fundraising & networking events geared toward getting all members involved - such as the annual Bluefish game to benefit the Vision Fund and the annual Green Tabletop Event. Also helps in the promotion of NAHB's program "Do Business with a Member"; and, encourages members to bring a builder to each meeting. As an advisory council, members may be called upon to assist with the development of other Committee Events as well as assist with the Event itself. Members will have responsibility for planning and leading their smaller scale events (when a specific event committee has not been established). Council should meet monthly. It is the chairperson's responsibility to plan the meetings, ensure a critical mass of participants, and report on the outcomes.
Builders Council:
Focuses on meeting the needs of consumers in the consumer oriented HBRA activities; and acts as: (a) Sounding boards for Program & Government Affairs Committees as they execute their plans; (b) Provide support to the Membership Committee in their Ambassador role; (c) Provide content ideas, subject matter expertise and other industry insight to HBRA office and Government Affairs Committee for their work; and, (d) as an Advisory Council, members will have responsibility for planning and leading their smaller scale events (when a specific event committee has not been established). Council should meet monthly. It is the chairperson's responsibility to plan the meetings, ensure a critical mass of participants, and report on the outcomes.
Remodelor's Council: * LOOKING FOR MEMBERS *

Focuses on community outreach and member education; and is comprised of HBRA members who are involved in the remodeling business. This Council works with volunteers from the HBRA's charitable organization (The Vision Fund, Inc.), representatives from St. Vincent's Center for Special Needs in Trumbull and other agencies in selecting a Ramp-A-Thon project each spring for completion in the fall. As an Advisory Council, members will have responsibility for planning and leading their smaller scale events (when a specific event committee has not been established). Council should meet monthly. It is the chairperson's responsibility to plan the meetings, ensure a critical mass of participants, and report on the outcomes. This Council is also affiliated with the NAHB Remodelor's Network.
HBRA EVENT COMMITTEES

Assists the Vision Fund in its main fundraiser held in December at the Annual Awards Gala. Tasks include: choosing event location, setting a date, working with the EO to finalize the dinner menu options, setting the criteria for and securing sponsorships, door prizes, gift bags and promoting the event to members. Committee should meet once a month starting in July.

This committee is charged with planning the Association's annual Golf Classic, usually held in June/July. Tasks include: choosing event location, setting a date, working with the EO to finalize the dinner menu options, setting the criteria for and securing sponsorships, door prizes, gift bags and promoting the event to members. Committee should meet once a month starting in January.
Home Show Committee:
This committee is charged with developing publicity and marketing tools for the Association's special projects including the annual Fairfield County Home & Better Living Show held in March/April. Tasks include coordinating enhancements to the Home Show, assisting with show set-up and manning shifts at the HBRA booth during the show. Committee should meet once a month year round.
HBRA OPERATING COMMITTEES
Executive Committee:
This committee works to advise the Board with respect to the Board composition and procedures; to develop and recommend to the Board a set of corporate governance principles applicable to HBRA; and works in conjunction with the Finance Committee and Executive Officer in setting the annual budget. Committee membership is made up of HBRA Board Members. They are responsible for making recommendations to the Board regarding corporate governance principles, including but not limited to: (a.) the structure, composition, practices and policies of the Board, and, (b.) the structure and charters of Board committees. They review the Company's policies and principles relating to succession planning and management development; and serve as the primary resource for the Board in evaluating issues of corporate governance. This committee reports monthly to the Board of Directors.

This committee works with the book keeper to ensure all aspects of the association's accounting and budgeting are in line. Committee membership is made up of HBRA Board Members. They are responsible to the Association for an accounting of all moneys collected and disbursed by the Association. They are also responsible for ensuring the overall financial health of the organization for the long term. Reports to the Board of Directors occur monthly and after the budget is finalized annually.
LRA/Government Relations Committee: *OPEN VICE CHAIR POSITION / LOOKING FOR MEMBERS *

This committee has jurisdiction over matters relating to the housing and building industry at the national, state and local level. The committee represents the industry before key government decision-makers on legislative and regulatory issues. They regularly monitor key industry issues and interface with HBRA contacts at the state and national level. Tasks include recommending information dissemination to members, actively encouraging the membership to respond to various "calls to action" on issues, interfacing with the Program committee and Education Committee to provide leadership on industry trends and hot topics. This committee is also responsible for leading Legislator's Night in October and coordinating volunteers and meetings for the annual Builders Day at the State Capitol in March.

This committee has jurisdiction in matters relating to membership development and retention. Tasks include oversight of new member orientation, acting as an Ambassador at the General Membership Meetings for new and prospective members and following up with prospective members after each program dinner; and the May Membership Drive. The Ambassador is required to meet guests, ensure that the benefits of membership are explained, the contact information is collected and shared with the HBRA office and the Ambassador must contact the guest to invite to join or be a guest at another event. Committee should meet once a month to discuss membership growth and retention as well as to plan May's Membership Drive.
Nominating Committee:
This committee works with the Committee and Council Chairs to recruit and fill HBRA Board positions. Committee membership is made up of HBRA Board Members and Past Presidents. They are responsible to the Board for assessing Board capabilities and skill sets needed for the organization and for identifying leaders working within the committees and councils who are ready for Board seats. Other duties include: (a) Succession Planning; (b) Vision Fund Board recruitment; and, (c) Ensuring a "full board" - all seats are filled. Reports to the Board of Directors occur at least quarterly and after the budget is finalized annually.

This committee is charged with developing the monthly program meetings for the general membership. Meetings occur on the first Wednesday of each month from September through June. Committee members assist with topic/speaker coordination that is geared to educate members concerning the issues involving their businesses and improving business skills. Tasks include membership surveys, interfacing with other appropriate committees/councils, securing sponsors, assisting with registration and set up at events. Major planning for programs occurs during the summer months.
